My Dearest of Dear Beach Girls, You are Now Connected to My Wonderful, Colorful World!

It is I, Beach Girl At Home

Are you in love? Madly, terribly, yet ever-so comfortably and perfectly in love? Do you love the way love feels, how it evokes such joy and grand excitement? The kind of love where your eyes do those spin-wheel thingies and your heart flops around in your chest like a fake set of chattering teeth? Isn’t it wonderful how you can also plop right down into love, to relax into it – to literally dwell in it?

Well … I am in love! And love’s glorious name is COLOR! Color is so cool and hot. Color is also thoughtful, caring, and gives the best hugs. Color can hold you close, get you through the tough times, and is always there to perk you up with a positive shove. Color makes you feel good – whatever “good” happens to be at the time. I’m going to introduce you this week to your own long-lost soulmate and (not coincidentally) its name is COLOR! Allow me to carry you gently (or kicking and screaming if necessary) into the Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World of all things tint, tone, and tinge … that is to say, COLOR! And by “mad” I mean rad.

Do not be afraid.

We are a coastal people, so we have at least two things in common: One, we’ve settled into the Gulf Coast lifestyle because we thrive at the ocean’s edge. We seek fun and pleasure at every turn, but we also choose serenity and respite. We live here because we’ve carved out an environment quite purposefully absent (finally!) of the rat-a-tat-tat of the city and the suburb. We are in full-on repose, let’s admit it.

Our second commonality is, … we are humans. Not breaking news, obviously, but follow along with me here: We are super relaxed, chill, coastal-types, and we’ve crafted our homes and spaces to match that lifestyle. We want soothing, streamlined, properly (and beautifully) semi-monochromatic color schemes indigenous to our natural surroundings. At the same time, as members of humanity (and you know who you are), we are inalterably attracted to COLOR.

You don’t need me to tell you that humans are attracted to color! Studies in many an esoteric psychology journal long report that yellow makes us “happy” and red signifies “passion.” Colors have psychological and even physiological effects on the human mind, behaviors, and emotions, for sure. Blue is peaceful, we can all agree. Orange exudes warmth and joy and emotional strength. Green is the color of nature, symbolizing water, life, growth and energy. Color, you might guess, is also highly personal. The colors we are drawn to vary from person to person based on tangibles like culture, experiences, memories, and then all manner of the unique and eternal intangibles that make us human. Natch! So, let’s get some of this going in your life, and in your home, STAT!

The point is, Beach Girls: There is power, life, and energy in color, as well as peace and serenity. And we all really do need one big shot in the arm of it! Some colors demand to be seen, some speak softly, some can be mashed together for effect, or signal functionality, space, and time in your Beach Girl At Home dream den, living room, or bedroom. Mostly, the color in your home should reflect YOU. In fact, color will naturally, instinctively -- and through a little bit of osmosis -- reflect your family, your values, interests, travels, your personal and collective experiences, and your mindset. Girl, it’s definitely time to start or continue to reinvent yourself and your surroundings by making a hot date with color!

Now, you may be asking yourself, Beach Girl At Home, wherever do I begin? You begin here, of course. Stroll into our showroom and meet your soulmate; fall in love. Picture yourself living

among the rainbow of colors you grew up with, those pinks you’ve pored over in magazines, and the emeralds and vibrant greens you’ve pined for on all the home decorating shows. This is about levels, gradations, and iterations of all color … whatever appeals to your senses, you’ll know it when you see it. Start with an original piece of artwork from one of our local artists at BGAH. Or allow yourself to gravitate (or even levitate) over to one of our wildly hot-hued, solid or patterned throw pillows. Something is sure to catch those spinny-wheels in your eyes, and this will be exactly how your love affair with color begins. Let’s take this journey together; let’s throw some shade into your home, and into your lifestyle.

You know Beach Girls, I tell my story with color, and you should, too. Let’s paint the picture of your life in your surroundings. Come in to Beach Girl At Home soon, where the canvas is never complete without color, and the love never ends.
